Optimising Mediator Queries to Distributed Engineering Systems

چکیده

Data and computations of a CAD system have been wrapped by a mediator system using CORBA’s IIOP Protocol. This allows ad hoc declarative mediator queries to be translated into optimised execution plans sending dynamic IIOP messages to a CAD server. Queries may call computational methods provided only by the CAD system. Dynamic query re-optimisation taking into account what data is currently materialised in the mediator substantially improves the performance compared to static optimisation, despite the added optimisation time. The approach provides both increased flexibility and efficiency compared to the conventional navigational use of CORBA-based CAD interfaces. Furthermore, CAD independences is provided since transparent queries and views can be defined over different CAD systems.

Using distributed database queries and composable mediators to support requirements analysis

Requirements analysis in a modern development environment needs to take into account product information at all development stages. An integrated product model is used to describe the data used through the development process as different kinds of models and to capture the relationships between them. Due to its diverse nature, this information is usually stored in distributed and heterogeneous ...

Processing Queries with Expensive Functions and Large Objects in Distributed Mediator Systems

LeSelect is a mediator system which allows scientists to publish their resources (data and programs) so they can be transparently accessed. The scientists can typically issue queries which access distributed published data and involve the execution of expensive functions (corresponding to programs). Furthermore, the queries can involve large objects such as images (e.g., archived meteorological...

A Distributed Case-Based Query Rewriting

In literature, the mediator architecture has been proposed for taking information from distributed, heterogeneous, and often dynamic sources and making them work together as a whole. In this paper we propose a distributed case-based approach for the main problem of a mediator, i.e. rewriting queries according to mediator’s schema. According to this approach we use a case memory as mediator’s sc...

A Semantic Web middleware for Virtual Data Integration on the Web

One of the most promising fields for the application of Semantic Web technology is the integration of data from distributed sources. Although data integration is a mature field of research and many popular database systems have some support for legacy data and query federation, concepts introduced in the Semantic Web research community provide lots of new opportunities. A commonly used procedur...
